Author · Educator · Researcher
Marcos Bulcão is a philosopher and psychoanalyst whose work sits at the intersection of behavioral science, decision theory, and trading psychology. He holds a PhD in Philosophy of Science from the University of São Paulo, and postdoctoral degrees in Psychoanalysis from institutions in France and the United Kingdom. He also holds a Master's in Trading from IOTAF, Canada.
He has taught at universities and institutions in Brazil, France, England, and the United States, and is the author of six published books in philosophy and psychoanalysis. His most recent work — Trading Without Ego: How to Turn Probability into Discipline — is the book behind the SmartLog method.
Marcos currently serves as Head of Trading Psychology at IOTAF in Montréal, where he leads a free weekly workshop for active traders. It was in this context — working week after week with real traders facing real decisions — that the SmartLog protocol was developed and refined.
His approach is grounded in a single conviction: traders don't fail because of bad character or weak willpower. They fail because the structure of their decisions is vulnerable to uncertainty. Fix the structure, and the behavior follows.

Philosophy
Trading sits at an unusual intersection: it is simultaneously one of the most emotionally demanding and most data-rich human activities. The data exists to learn from. But most traders never access it — not because it's unavailable, but because they don't have a structure that makes it interpretable.
The work Marcos does is not trading coaching in the conventional sense. It's the application of rigorous analytical frameworks — drawn from philosophy of science, psychoanalysis, and behavioral research — to the specific problem of how humans make decisions under uncertainty.
SmartLog is the practical expression of that work: a tool that gives traders the structure to turn their own experience into evidence, and their evidence into clarity.
